Bellefontaine Intermediate provides multiple opportunities for identified gifted students.  These opportunities come in different forms depending upon the student's needs.  Students who are identified as superior cognitive or subject specific in reading and/or math are placed into cluster classrooms and are provided gifted services four to five days a week in both reading and mathematics by the gifted intervention specialist and classroom teacher.  These services come in the form of pull-out, co-teaching, curriculum modifications and compacting, and higher levels of depth of knowledge (DOK).  Students who have a subject specific identification in science and social studies are serviced by their classroom teacher who receives professional development from and collaborates weekly with the gifted intervention specialist.  Creatively gifted students are also serviced by the gifted intervention specialist in a pull-out setting.

Students who perform consistently above grade level in a subject area and on school wide assessments, such as MAP, can be grade level accelerated or subject accelerated.  These students are served through attending a class or classes above their enrolled grade level which can be done in-house, if the grade level is third, fourth or fifth grade.  Students who are subject accelerated in fifth grade can be bussed to Bellefontaine Middle School to receive sixth grade services.  Acceleration is done through a collaborative process between teachers, gifted intervention specialists, parents and the student.
