BIS
March 13, 2020

 Greetings BIS Families:

Wow, this past week has been something I could not have ever imagined! We are definitely experiencing something that is new to both you as parents, as well as new to myself and the teaching staff. This letter is an effort to communicate to you how our district and school are responding to the recent events across the state, particularly how we are responding to the extended three week break that was announced yesterday by Governor DeWine. As a reminder, school will not be in session through April 5th, meaning the first date back will be Monday, April 6th, 2020.

We are committed to working together as a staff and as a community to ensure our students get the best possible education while all school facilities are closed across the state through April 5th. Please read the following information which contains important details for you and your children during this period of time.

a.       Remote Education: While we understand that this is certainly a new method for most students in their educational journey, we believe that we can still provide excellent 21st century skills and content through our Remote Education Plan. This plan includes:

b.      Schoology Access: Coming in the very near future…for a link to the Schoology website or BIS access codes for classes, you may go to this website: http://is.bellefontaine.k12.oh.us/for_students

c.       Requirements: Students will be expected to complete 10 days of lessons for each course. Please do so consistently and communicate with your teachers. For those who do not have access to technology or Wi-Fi, your teachers will work with you upon returning to school.

d.      Teachers are using their email distribution lists to send home information. If you have not received anything, please reach out and email your teacher (via the BCS web page) to give your most updated email address.

e.       Testing: State testing is under review at the Ohio Department of Education. If any decisions are made regarding the schedule of these tests or requirements, we will let you know.

f.        Meals and Child Care: If you are in need of food or child care over this period of time, our district and several leaders from the community are working diligently together to form a plan. Stay tuned for more information, and visit our district Facebook page, United Way Facebook Page, or the Chamber of Commerce website and Facebook page.

g.       Grade Cards: Paper copies will not be mailed. To review your child’s recent grade card, visit ProgressBook and click on “grade card view” for details and comments.

h.      PTO Car Coaster Fundraiser: The PTO will be extending the sale and deadlines. Please hold on to your order forms and money you have collected, and once school is back in session, PTO will give everyone information about when orders are due and will be filled.

Thank you for your continued patience as we work through all of this, and know that Chieftain Nation has the best staff, the best students, and best community here in Bellefontaine! If you have any questions, I can be reached through the following email, and will be checking in regularly: adelsber@bcs-k12.org

Your Partner in Education,

Mrs. Adelsberger, building principal
